deerhoof is not a band i usually throw on for easy listening. maybe the occasional dance freakout, but even that is pretty tough with such a spastic drummer. but with this record deerhoof comes pretty close to what i had imagined if they were to make a pop record. not to say that deerhoof didn't have a pop sense, but this is probably the easiest to digest of all their work. it is maybe not as raw, not as messy, which would usually turn me off, but they make it work pretty well. probably because less is still a good amount for them, ha! in almost every song there is something that just catches me and says "dig it", so i do. probably not a radio hit record but far more tangible then some of the off the wall, in your face material that deerhoof has hurled at us before. the end drags a bit and the last song is way too long, but that was probably the point.
