this album starts off pretty strong. immediately anyone who has heard "silent alarm" senses their change. bloc party seem to have taken advantage of the studio creating complex layers of noise and booming guitar production. i am not a huge fan of things that are this produced but it is mostly done tastefully and adds a new dimension to the angular guitar jangle of "silent alarm".the major problem is that the second half of the record wishes it was the first half. the songs are only nearly as engaging and i find myself wanting to start the album over again. "kreuzberg" manages to grab my attention again despite it's length but then another plunge into not quite finished thoughts. it is pleasant enough. worth a listen. mike really enjoys it.
