i do not understand of montreal. sure i can bob my head and dance along but sitting down and trying to listen to this record frustrated me. i kept feeling like there was something that i was missing. a secret. something that would unlock my brain so that when i heard these songs i would say "oh, i get it.". up until now, this has not happened. and i bet you are saying to yourself "drew! i don't understand you! you love those terrible joan of arc guys but you can't get into of montreal! what is wrong with you?" to which i would reply, "i just dunno." there are a few songs on the album that i can get into. the flow from "she's a rejector" into the last song is nice. i enjoy those two. "cato as a pun" is another one i wouldn't mind hearing again. i like the random guitar wail. that seems real to me. the line "and don't say i've changed because of course i have" is pretty great too.
