I have heard this band described as no-wave discopunk. i am not sure what that means but i really haven't heard anything like this. !!! wants to make you dance and then screw with your head. it's pretty fun. there are points on this record that are solely made for dancing. this took awhile for me to get used to. most of the arty dance bands around now have songs that are short and to the point but !!! take you on a trip, a dance floor epic. sometimes it really works for them like "heart of hearts" and "sweet life", but other times it didn't translate as well like "yadnus" or the sometimes awkward "myth takes". the last song threw me for a loop. a piano ballad. or at least the closet thing !!! will come to one. great lyrics on that one altough towards the end i was hoping it go big and it didn't. maybe that was the point. not bad.
